KAPILVASTU, OCT 13 -
Hosts Kapilvastu YCD Academy and Khukuri Cricket Club made winning starts to the Gautam Buddha International Twenty20 Cricket Tournament here on Sunday.
Fajlur Rahman Khan’s allround performance helped Kapilvastu register a
seven-wicket win over an Indian team Gorakhpur while Khukuri Cricket
Club defeated Birgunj by 38 runs. Sushan Bhari and Khan’s excellent
bowling helped Kapilvastu bowl out Gorakhpur for 86 runs in 19.1 overs.
Pradeep Airee (28) and Khan (24) helped the hosts accomplish the target
for the loss of three wickets in 14.2 overs.
Chasing a modest target, Khan and Ankur Shrivastav (10) provided a good
start with an opening stand of 33 runs before Pankaj Shukla broke the
partnership by dismissing the latter.
Three runs later Khan, who smashed four boundaries in his 18-ball 21,
was stumped off Rehan Ullah. Airee then kept the runs flowing adding 41
runs with Pranit Thapa. Shahban Khan got rid of Airee but by then
Kapilvastu were already staring at an easy win at 78-3. Pranit (14) and
Puspha Thapa (8) safely guided Kapilvastu home with their unbeaten
knocks.
In another match of the day, a collective batting efforts from Nischal
Chaudhary (33), Sabin Shakya (22) and Bijay BK (22) saw Khukuri Cricket
Club put on a respectable 139-6 in 20 overs before restricting Birgunj
for 101 runs. Dipendra Yadav returned with figures of 3-16 and Ashok
Chettri grabbed two wickets for Khukuri Club.
Birgunj were reeling at 30-3 after a top order collapse as they lost Amit Shrestha (2), Anil Sah (8) and Robin
Gurung (8) cheaply early on. Only the middle order batsman Suraj Patel
came up with some sort of fight in his fluent 31-ball 27 runs.
Rajasthan Cricket Academy will take on Janakpur and Delhi Cricket Council will meet Dhangadi on Monday.
