KATHMANDU, SEP 28 -
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has admired Nepal’s peace process
during his address to the 69th session of the United Nations General
Assembly in New York.
Modi, who won Nepali hearts with his speech in Nepali language while
addressing the Nepali parliament during his Nepal visit, said that Nepal
had set an example by embracing peace and democracy after a decade-long
conflict. "Nepal is heading to the path of peace and democracy after
war," Modi said.
During his address, the first one to the U.N. General Assembly since
his resounding election victory in May, Modi said that he wants to hold
bilateral talks with neighboring Pakistan in "an atmosphere of peace,
without a shadow of terrorism." He also encouraged more people to take
up yoga and called for an International Yoga Day.
Nepali Prime Minister Sushil Koirala and Indian delegates, present
during the address, clapped and cheered Modi’s 34-minute long speech in
Hindi language.
