KATHMANDU, MAY 26 -
Prime Minister Sushil Koirala left for India on Monday morning to attend the swearing in ceremony of Indian Prime Minister designate Narendra Modi.
Koirala boarded a Jet Airways aircraft at around 9: 35 for New Delhi
leading a 13-member delegation. According to the itinerary, PM Koirala
and two other members of his delegation will participate in Modi’s
swearing-in ceremony scheduled at 6 pm local time.
PM Koirala along with five other members will also meet Indian President Pranab Mukharjee.
Minister for Physical Planning and Infrastructure Bimalendra Nidhi,
along with Nepali Congress leaders Sujata Koirala and Sashanka Koirala,
will accompany the PM during the visit. Likewise, his two
advisers—foreign policy expert Dinesh Bhattarai and economic adviser
Chirinjivi Nepal—as well as chief personal secretary to the PM Basanta
Gautam will be part of the entourage.
The delegation plans to return home on Tuesday afternoon.
Modi will be sworn in amid a gala ceremony attended by approximately
4,000 guests, including Pakistani PM Nawaz Sharif who will be joined by
other regional leaders at the ceremony in Delhi's presidential palace.
Unprecedented ground-to-air security cover and a multi-layered security
ring have been put in place for the swearing-in ceremony.
Modi is expected to be sworn in along with a small group of cabinet ministers whose names have not yet been announced.
