Nawalparasi police chief Bishu Hari Gautam informed that Agrawal was arrested
from Mill's Sunwal-based factory after police confirmed of the
allegations levelled against Agrawal. He was accused of duping farmers
by tampering with sugarcane weight.
The officials from Bhairahawa-based Department of Quality Control and
Measurement had found during their investigation that the weighing
machine at the factory did not show the correct measurement of weight.
Farmers had earlier complained that the weighing machine showed much
less weight than the accurate weight.
It has been found that Lumbini Sugar Mill
made off some Rs. 3.1 million by tampering with the weight of
sugarcane weight this year alone. The Mill, however, claimed that they
were not at fault as they had been using measurement instruments
verified by the government body.
