KATHMANDU, MAY 13 -
The Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee ( PHSC
) has summoned all the members of Judicial Council (JC) regarding the
recommendation of 'controversial' judges to the post of Supreme Court
(SC) justices.
A meeting of the PHSC
convened on Tuesday decided to invite all members of the committee
under the chief justice. However, the committee has not fianlised the
date for the same.
The meeting has decided to take the recommendation for appointment of justices, PHSC
Chairman Kul Bahadur Gurung informed. The JC has been facing
criticisms from several quarters for recommending some 'controversial'
judges to the post of SC justices.
Members of JC include Chief Justice Damodar Sharma, senior Justice Ram
Kumar Shah, Law Minister Narahari Acharya, bar members Khem Narayan
Dhungana and Upendra Kesari Neupane.
At today's meeting, lawmakers from the CPN-UML and UCPN (Maoist) demanded mandatory presence of Chief Justice Sharma.
The Judicial Council (JC) on April 23 had recommended eight judges for
the post of permanent justices at the Supreme Court (SC).
