Lawmaker Sah held over Janakpur blast

KATHMANDU, MAY 05 - Police on Sunday made public the former state minister and lawmaker, Sanjay Kumar Sah ‘Takala’, following his arrest on Saturday night for his alleged role in the Janakpur Bomb Blast in 2012 that killed five people.
A joint team from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) arrested Sah from the Chapkaiya area in Birgunj. The bureau handed over Sah to the Dhanusa District Police Office (DDPO).
Police had issued an arrest warrant against Sah on March 16. Th
e DDPO said that Sah, who was elected as Sadbhawana Party lawmaker from Dhanusa-4, is the mastermind behind the deadly blast at Ramanand Chowk in Janakpur on April 30, 2012 which also left 32 injured.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Uttam Subedi said there are supporting evidence, including a statement showing transactions between him and the executors, a recording of the phone conversation prior to the event, that establishes Sah’s involvement in the blast.
Subedi said the voice of one of the speakers on the phone, who appears to be describing the bomb blast and the plan in detail, was “verified” to be that of Sah.
“We have presented him before the court and his statement has been recorded,” said Subedi.
Police have already arrested the main executor of the blast, Mukesh Chaudhary, from Nagarin VDC-9 of Dhanusa on March 2. In his statement to police, Chaudhary revealed the involvement of Sah in the blast.
Sah, however, insisted his innocence. “I’ve nothing to do with that incident. I believe the court will be declare me not guilty.”
After Chaudhary, police also arrested Om Prakash Yadav, once a close aide to Sah and who had entered the Nepali Congress during the second Consituent Assembly (CA) election. Yadav has also confessed the involvement of Sah in the blast.
A former State Minister for Physical Planning and Works, Sah is the only directly elected lawmaker of Nepal Sadhbhawana Party in the second CA election.
Earlier, police had taken Jay Prakash Chaudhary, Suresh Kumar Karna, Jitendra Lal Karna and Ripendra Jha in custody for further investigation.
Police said they have filed a case against Sah under murder charges and further investigations are underway.
