CHITWAN, APR 16 -
UCPN (Maoist) as well as CPN-Maoist cadres and relatives of people
accused in the murder of Krishna Prasad Adhikari of Fujel-7 in Gorkha
briefly halted traffic movement in Bharatpur on Tuesday to protest
filing of a charge sheet against the accused. The District Attorney’s
Office filed the charge sheet against 13 accused at the Chitwan District
Court on Sunday, seeking life imprisonment with confiscation of all
their property.
The protesters demanded release of the arrestees. “The state has done
injustice to us. Those who were arrested in connection with the murder
should be released,” said Parshuram Poudel, who was arrested on the same
charge earlier but was released after an investigation.
He said that they would halt traffic movement in Gorkha on Wednesday and across the country on Thursday in protest.
The District Court started recording statement of the accused on
Tuesday. Krishna, then 19, was reportedly abducted from Bakulharchok in
Ratnanagar, Chitwan, in 2004 by then Maoist rebels and subsequently
killed. Krishna’s parents—Nanda Prasad and Ganga Maya—have been staging a
hunger strike in Kathmandu demanding that the murderers of their son be
booked.
Meanwhile, Physical Planning, Works and Transport Management Minister
Bimalendra Nidhi on Tuesday said the government cannot interfere in the
works of judiciary regarding the murder case. He said the government
cannot speak about any matter landed in the court. Regarding the refusal
of the UCPN (Maoist) to attend a three-party meeting after the charge
sheet was filed, he said the government is ready to resolve the matter
through dialogue.
