DAMAK, FEB 28 -
A fugitive, wanted for robbery and murder , was injured after he tried to resist his arrest at Damak-15, Jhapa on Friday.
A police team, acting on a tip-off, spotted the fugitive, Aite Singh
Tabung, a resident of Pathar- based Bhutanese Refugee Camp, at a tea
shop in Damak-15. But Tabung sustained a bullet injury after he
allegedly tried to snatch the pistol of a policeman.
According to SP Mukunda Acharya of the District Police Office, Jhapa,
the police personnel deployed on plain clothes had to fire two rounds of
bullets as he tried to snatch the pistol from the police personnel. One
round was fired in the air during the tussle while the second shot hit
Tabung in his loin injuring him during the arrest.
The injured fugitive was transported to BP Koirala Institute of Health
Sciences after his injuries could not be treated at Damak.
The Jhapa police, since the past few days, had been scrutinising Tabung
in request of the Morang Police. He stands accused of several criminal
charges including a murder and robbery .
Meanwhile, the police have suspected his involvement in the recent loot of Rs 1.3 million from a money changer in Kakadvitta.
