KATHMANDU, OCT 09 -
Nepal will be playing their maiden Twenty20 International Series with Hong Kong during a tour to Sri Lanka from November 7-25.
The three-match Twenty20 series will be Nepal ’s first after attaining the T20 International status from the International Cricket Council (ICC) in June. Nepal
and the Netherlands gained the T20I status on the back of their
sterling displays in the ICC World Twenty20 held in Bangladesh in March.
Nepal
, who already have three Twenty20 internationals to their name during
the World Cup, will feature in the ICC’s T20 rankings if they add two
more official matches of the game’s shortest version. A team needs to
play eight Twenty20 international games to break into the ICC rankings.
Apart from the three Twenty20 games scheduled for November 13, 14 and
16, Nepal
will be playing a 50-over game against Hong Kong along with two
three-day matches against the Sri Lanka Cricket Development Squad.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity for Nepal
cricket. For our growth, we need to keep playing international games,”
national team coach Pubudu Dassanayake said of the tour. “I am
delighted with ACC’s initiative and I owe special thanks to my Hong Kong
counterpart Charlie Burke for making this possible. Our team will gain
lots of experience on this tour.”
