POKHARA, JUN 04 -
A committee was formed on Wednesday to probe the death of a woman who died after undergoing cesarean section at Phulbari-based Manipal Teaching Hospital .
Twenty-four-year-old Kopila Bhandari of Hemja-5, Kaski died during a
surgery performed 11 hours after going through a Caesarean section on
Monday. The health condition of her newborn is normal.
The Manipal Teaching Hospital
in Pokhara had remained tense throughout Tuesday after relatives of
Bhandari resorted to protests claiming she died due to hospital
staffers’ negligence.
The protesters claimed conflicting statement furnished by doctors was
enough to prove the negligence on the part of the medical staff. “Why
did the doctors operate on her the second time when they had claimed the
first surgery as successful?” asked Bishnu Bhandari, Kopila’s relative.
As per the agreement reached between the hospital management and the victim's family at the District Administration Office, a committee
headed by Western Regional Hospital's Dr. Ravi Sharma has been formed
today and it is expected to submit a report to the DAO with a week.
Bhandari was a programme presenter for the community radio in Hemja.
