KATHMANDU, MAY 05 -
Hong Kong has posted a total of 181 runs against Nepal in the ACC
Premier League game at Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur on Monday.
Losing the toss, Hong Kong's total was built mainly around Irafan
Ahmed's inning of 106 runs from 110 balls. Ahmed hit four boundaries and
three sixes with a strike rate of 92.17.
Sompal Kami took four wickets followed by Basanta Regmi with three and
debutant Aarif Sheikh also claimed two wickets as Nepali bowlers bounced
back into the game after leaking too many runs in the early overs.
Quick jolts first by debutant Aarif Sheikh and then by Sompal Kami late
in the inning halted Hong Kong's run flow which at the beginning of
the inning was at the rate of more than 5 runs per over.
Sheikh claimed back-to- back wickets of captain James Atkinson on 11
and Babar Hayat for a duck. Pressure built on the Hong Kong batsmen when
Ankur Sharma was run out for just two runs leaving them on 118 for five
after 25 overs.
However, runs came in after Ahmed and Roy Lamsam put on a fighting
52-run stand for a sixth wicket. The partnership came to an end when
Lamsam was removed on 18 by Sompal on the fifth ball of 39th over.
Ahmed then cautiously brought up his 100 from 110 balls but with two quick wickets by Sompal left them on 175-9.
Ahmed then smashed a six off Regmi's first ball of the 42nd over. His
knock came to an end when he lofted a simple catch to Shakti Gauchan off
Regmi's delivery.
